P22 Underground Specimen Book
The front and back covers were inspired by the various colors of signs found in London. I used negative space on the half-title page to incorporate the phrase “Mind the Gap,” a safety warning at London Underground stations encouraging passengers to mind the gap between the train and the platform edge. To use this phrase in typography, I gave the negative space a gap between “g” and “ap” that aligns with the phrase's meaning.
The half-title page features a solid blue background and utilizes the P22 Underground typeface.

The anatomy page features various weights of typefaces.
The blue page highlights a distinctive feature of the Underground color often used in the Underground. I created a sentence with words ending in “i” and “j” to show the unique characteristics of this type. Additionally, zooming in and catching the eye on the right page highlights two different alphabets, adding to the visual impact. Adding a diamond shape to the page also highlights its uniqueness.
In contrast, this page has a solid red background with the Underground color. On the left, I purposely added words used for the signs in London, with each word having different weights in the typeface. On the right page, I created contrast with the heavy weight of the type and a solid red background to make it visually more impactful.
For the word ‘COLOPHON,’ I integrated the Underground shape into the alphabet ‘O’ to be more unified with the theme of this design. Additionally, I created a contrast in the typefaces’ weights to enhance the visual hierarchy and readability.
P22 Underground Poster
The poster features the phrase from my front and half-title page, incorporating diamond shapes from the typeface's letters "I" and "j. " This showcases highlighted characteristics of this style.
